trying to hide your misery in your big fur coat again.

i think true fashion has gone on the backburner. we are not developing because we don't care. we are more socially involved, curing aids, sciences, and ethics. although fashion can reflect those causes, we're into the age where we have too many things on our minds to be radical and revolutionary about the way we dress. we've done it all; women wear pants, and wear their skirts and dresses as short as they want, their shirts as small as they want, and as much spandex as they want. we can choose from every colour and feel. there are no more boundaries to push.

we haven't developed too many new materials; the ones that are developed are NASA type fabrics, which are not useful for apparel. also, rights are equal so putting pants on a woman is not starting something new.

i don't think we are reluctant, perhaps confused, maybe anxious, but we're more bored and our creativity is exhausted more than anything. fashion is now like a kid who's played with every toy in the world, but is bored with all that he has. he wants more, new playthings, but there's nothing because all the ideas are gone. the only thing to do is recycle the older ones, revisit the past for some nostalgia and see if sparks fly again. but we're also too caught up with the rest of the world.

does anyone else feel that these early 21st century years will be revisited with memories of anxiety and confusion? the recent love for vintage ( though it is one i love too) suggests a reluctance to move forward into a new century. the high street and even the runway have been filled by looks that were exhausted decades ago, yet we are choosing to covet them once more.
