You're so right! She's always being bashed on blogs. And, btw, I have seen her do some great acting. Most people only know her for her role on The O.C. (where I personally thought she did well, except for when the writing and directing sucked). She also did many good things prior to The O.C.
I agree with meeshhead - she's really a very good actress, who's impressed people like Richard Attenborough with her ability. Don't judge her just by what you've seen her do on The O.C., where she was limited by the script and direction. Check out some of her films and you could well be surprised by just how good she really is!
