Afghan Girl

This picture of a young Aghan girl appeared on the cover of National Geographic in 1985. Photgraphed by Steven Curry, when he caught up with her 17 years later, she said she had no idea that she had become an icon. The woman, named Sharbat Gula, who lived in the Nasir Bagh refugee camp in Afghanistan, had never seen the picture before. She had only had her picture tatken twice in her life, once in 1985, and the second time when the photographer had caught up with her

"When Sharbat agreed to have her picture taken for the second time in her life, she came out from the secrecy of her veil to tell her story. She wanted the people around the world who knew her face to know that she survived the refugee camp in Pakistan.
She married and had four daughters, one of whom died in infancy. She lives in obscurity, according to the customs and traditions of her culture and religion.
A member of the Pashtun ethnic group in Afghanistan, Sharbat said she fared relatively well under Taliban rule, which, she feels, provided a measure of stability after the chaos and terror of the Soviet war." (National Geographic) .
1985

17 Years Later

Her eyes may show the hardships she's enountered during the course of her life, but they are just as engaging and tell a story as much as when she was a girl.

* I may have seen this photo hundreds of times and it never ceases to amaze me and stop me in my tracks.

farewell

My Danish partner departed today. I will be visiting her in 32 days though, so thats nice. I was so sad today, i cant even imagine how sad i'll be when i leave Denmark and the Exchange is over. I know this sounds silly, but my partner travels quite a bit, and i really hope to stay in touch with her. Well we had a banquet last night. This is what i wore. It was quite fun.

sorry about the quality of the photo! it was the only decent one of me alone, I have quite a few from the banquet, but I dont want to put photos of friends up with out their permission, so this will ahve to do.
Oh! and i wore silver pointy flats

hold me now, don't start shaking

what ever happened to adults conquering their passions?

it seems as if only youth is indomitable, insuperable, against the thought of failure.

i like that feeling. the feeling of adolescence. the feeling of having copious amounts of time to achieve whatever my little heart desires.

however, i might be omitting the current election candidates. thoughts?

dancing with myself

I am having an incredible time with my Danish exchange student(Katryna). She is here for 5 more days, and in April i go to Denmark. Its been so much fun, I just feel like dancing. I haven't had much time for the computer. This is an outfit i wore last week. It was fun, i thought atleast, all my teachers told me i looked adorable, it was awkward, but nice i guess. haha.

Right now i have to write a paper on The Great Gatsby, ughhh, i hate this. I can not think of a single decent thing to write about. It is terrible.

I apologize for any misspelled words....liike misspelled for example, im almost positive i got that one wrong.haha, well anyway, point is, Katryna was writing an email last night and switched the language to Danish, so now I usually use spell check for a few misspelled words here and there, but because of the language change, it says almost everything is misspelled......so i cant fix it. AH.

il faut avoir des meilleur notes

Since when could people accurately measure one's learning with numbers?

And since when did this number become more important than the learning it was "supposed" to measure.

Just curious.

The Good Old Days...

I was sitting in the car with my mum. I told her that I felt as though the whole world has so many problems and that I didn't know if they would ever be resolved. I sighed. When I got out of the car, in the middle of the street (I had to hop out), she grabbed my hand and said,

"See you later alligator...I miss being able to make you smile so easily, you know? All i would have to say was "see you later alligator" and you would laugh so hard. That was when your world was perfect, and you were too young to understand war or poverty or hate. All you knew was how to laugh, and cry and play in the sandbox with your little friends. I miss those days."

And then I replied, "In a while crocodile", and slammed the car door shut before more cars blasted their horns at me.

Danish Exchange

Today was exciting, I went and picked up my exchange parter. She is from Denmark, there is a group of us from my school doing the exchange, they are here for 10 days, and April we go there for 10 days. It was quite exciting. My partner is named Katryna, she is super sweet. She is aspleep right now.
So here is what I wore. I ended up taking off the necklace and bangle. But it was cool, the Danes are into highwaisted things I suppose, i got quite a few compliments, which was nice. I was so afraid it was gonna be awkward, but it wasn't. Its my birthday today too, so my parter brought me some Danish body creme, its heavenly.haha

well im off to sleep. busy day!

do you really wanna hold my dirty hands?

these were taken by my pal shmatt shmilson, a photography genious.

I voted today. It was great.

I also browsed through collections at style.com
favorites so far were chloe and lanvin
although marc jacobs at louis vuitton was quite nice.

yo momma told yo not to converse with strangers.

guess what. i'm not a stranger.

you can call me taylor. i tend to think it's a misnomer compared to weird, unique,
or whatever few syllable word defines sonorous in expression.

I attend some silly prestigious boarding school that is just as silly as trying to unify a diverse, contentious, crazy, independent, stylish humankind by a school uniform.
which, thankfully, i don't have.

imma self proclaimed hippie, but i have a lot of improving to do.
i can be your project, make me over.
but don't do a cursory job. details embellish a personality, branding it and carving themselves into the individual they embody.
make mine pretty, make mine sweet, but you better make my details bright.

meaning a smile;
the only cure to a bad day.

sorry, i don't make sense. i ramble on. i'm an art dork, but a sports geek, as well.
forgive me. let's start over.
i'm taylor, nice to meet you.

find a song to sing that is everything

I joined the crew

I joined the wayfayer glasses crew. It's official. I actually bought these back in January. I live in an extremely inconvenient place with no thrift shops so i didn't get to get mine from my little town vintage shop like so many, so i got them from the oh-so-cliche' Urban Outfitters. I quite enjoy wearing them. I have only flaunted them in school on one occasion, and ended up taking them off after a bit. However, I wear them out almost every weekend.

I am eating my hair in the third picture. yummy yummy. Oh, and in case you can not tell, the pictures on the side are wayfayers, haha, my novice paint skills aren't quite up to par with some of you intense photo-shoppers.

it all occured when i was four.

the new kid on the block

glad to be amongst the lovely style marauders!

i'm a body of fabric, got buttons for brains.
with a heart of gold and thread as my veins.

i'm studying fashion design next year at the University of Cincinnati's DAAP program and cannot wait to stop messing around with logs and trig and move onto something bigger and better. the term "senioritis" does not even begin to describe the itch i'm scratching. i've got a bunch of ideas up my sleeve and i love mucking around in DIY and sewing. maybe i can share some with you lovelies? oh, and growing up with a seamstress as a mother has had a huge influence on me.

i've been quite a chameleon this year. i won't lie that i am super-inspired by Agyness Deyn.

c'est moi. i recently dyed my hair brown. and i do believe that your hair color can change your personality and the way you dress.
well, i'm stumped.
more soon!

I Was Born A Unicorn

I have an obsession with unicorns. I guess I'm quite juvenile.
So today I took the SAT's and honestly. I did not give much thought to an outfit that I would wear to sit in a room for 5 hours taking a test.
So i wore my pink unicorn hoodie, a white hanes tee, and some plain ol black leggings. Comfy for sure!
My brain has seriously stopped working from the stress and intensity of the SAT's, so i apologize for my lack of anything incredibly meaningful, and of course for any grammar mistakes.
Back to my unicorn fetish. I also made a unicorn hoodie. Me and my friend originally planned to make them for Halloween, we ran out of time, but ended up making them anyway.
Note to self: do not try to make facial expressions in pictures.

You know, all this week i was thinking "geez i cant wait till the SAT's are over, then i can stop stressing" but they are over and still all i can think about is how i did. eeh well, this if my first time, I'm almost positive I'll be taking them again.
Well its the first say of March and my birthday is in 4 days, so at least i have that to look forward to! whooo 17!
